In March 2022, the American Psychiatric Association released the DSM-5-TR. This revision includes a new Prolonged Grief Disorder; more than 70 modified criteria sets; integration of more nuanced considerations regarding race, gender identity, and discrimination; and diagnostic attention to Suicidal Behavior and Nonsuicidal Self-Injury. Presenters will provide a brief description of changes in the DSM-5-TR with special attention to those most relevant for counseling practice and counselor education, including information from APA’s Supplementals.
Learning Objectives:
1.Participants will understand diagnostic criteria and relevance of Prolonged Grief Disorder.
2.Participants will understand how to integrate attention to race, gender identity, and discrimination within the context of diagnosis.
3.Participants will identify at least 5 changes to diagnostic criteria sets relevant to counseling practice and counselor education.
